(=^.^=) CAT PACK FAQ 2011.05.04

Q. Which emulator setup should I use?
A. The As and RX setups are the most compatible. If they don't work, try the VM and Xs setups.

Q. I loaded a save state and the game is buggy, crashes, etc.
A. Do NOT use save states while there is disk activity. You will permanently corrupt your disk image.

Q. How do I capture/uncapture the mouse?
A. Click Device->Mouse from the menu, press F12, or middle-click.

Q. How do I mount CDs?
A. Harddisk->IDE #2. It is not necessary to mount CDs in a virtual drive like Daemon Tools. To access a CD, you'll also need to boot up with the NECCDD.SYS CD driver and MSCDEX.EXE configured.

Q. How do I mount an .hdd hard disk image?
A. Harddisk->SCSI.

Q. I'm getting severe slowdown.
A. Some general tips:
	- This is a very CPU-intensive emulator. Do not set the CPU clock higher than necessary.
	- Do not use Auto Frame if the CPU clock is higher than 40 MHz (2.5 MHz x 16). Use Screen->Full frame.
	- Increase the process priority in Windows Task Manager.

Q. The screen size is too small.
A. Click the cat icon on the title bar to select various window resolutions. 1280x800 is recommended, because it's a perfect 2x scaling of the original resolution. If you have a 1920x1200 monitor, go fullscreen with full zoom for a perfect 3x scaling (Screen->Screen option->Fullscreen).

Q. There's no sound.
A. Try the VM or DX setup. Otherwise, select the PC-9801-86 board under Device->Sound. It's the most compatible sound board.

Q. The sound is crackling, popping, distorted, etc.
A. Increase the sound buffer under Emulate->Configure. A value between 100-500 ms should work. If the sound is still distorted, lower the CPU clock.

Q. Sound effects are laggy.
A. Lower the sound buffer under Emulate->Configure. A lower value means less delay, but might cause distortion. The minimum buffer size is 40 ms.

Q. Some Japanese error message about "GDC", "2.5 MHz" and/or "5 MHz".
A. Change the GDC clock setting in the BIOS. See GDC_clock.png.
	- Hold down the End key on your keyboard, and click Emulate->Reset.
	- Select the second option from the top and press Enter.
	- Look for the GDC clock option near the bottom, and change it to either 5 MHz or 2.5 MHz.
	- Select the bottom option twice to exit the BIOS and reboot.

Q. There's this annoying buzzing sound...
A. The emulator simulates the sound of a real floppy drive when reading disks. If you want to turn it off, click Device->Sound->Seek Sound. You should really leave it on, though, because it's fucking awesome.

Q. Screen colors are messed up in Apros/Rhymestar/Drakkhen/Lemmings.
A. A very small number of games used a special hack to enable 17+ color palettes, and do not display correctly. Enable Screen->Real palettes to fix them.

Q. I want to use the emulator as a chiptune player.
A. Good idea! Click the cat icon on the title bar and check "Background" and "Background sound". Just don't try to run Photoshop or something.
